At COLPAI, all children have a weekly Music lesson with a professional from Love2Sing. We also have three choirs and endeavour to put on termly performances for parents and carers. All children (Reception to Year 6) attend a weekly singing assembly with a yearly theme. Each year group also takes part in a performance, either with acting roles or as part of the chorus. In addition, children are also able to sign up to after-school instrumental opportunities through Highbury Roundhouse clubs.
We also offer external opportunities through our links with the City’s Cultural Mile as well as Music Education Islington. As an example, last year, a group of children were involved in a project called City Schools which saw them collaborate with children from different schools to create music. They also wrote their own song, devising the lyrics and melody with two musicians before coming together to perform this at the Great Hall, Guildhall. This year, some children from Years 5 and 6 will take part in Young Voices.
